Core thickness
The thickness of the paddle's core in millimetres; 14mm and 16mm are the common choices.
The core is the honeycomb or foam layer between the two faces. Thicker cores absorb more of the ball's energy, which gives a softer feel, more dwell time and a larger sweet spot; thinner cores return more energy for a crisper feel and more pop.
In our lab data the differences are smaller than the marketing suggests: thinner cores average a little more pop and a lower swing weight, thicker cores a higher twist weight, and measured drive power is about the same.
