Spin (RPM)

How fast the ball rotates after a standardised stroke, measured in revolutions per minute.

Spin is measured by striking the ball with a fixed stroke and reading its rotation rate in RPM. It depends on the texture of the face and how long the ball stays on it. Textured surfaces wear, so these are new-paddle numbers and a well-used paddle will measure lower.

More spin lets you hit harder while keeping the ball in, and makes dinks and serves harder to read. Most paddles in our database fall between about 1,700 and 2,250 RPM.
